When using the Windows 2000 Update feature Microsoft claims that "No personal information is being sent to microsoft ". Does anyone know what is really being sent to Microsoft? Is an IP address "personal "? Is the Product Key used "personal "? Are all my cookies "personal "? What exactly do they mean by personal information?

Find out for yourself. Download Regmon from sysinternals.

Install it and fire it up. Go do stuff at the M$ site that causes you worry about what information they are getting.

You will then have a pretty good list of what was done to your PC and what information passed to and from.
