Hi, i recently cleaned up all the spyware and **** on my sisters PC, the amount of spyware i found is a joke, anyway, got rid of it all, free'd up all the memory its working nice.

But i/we cant access the shared documents.. Under MY Computer

We/I get permission denied, see adminstrator. Im logged in as the admin, as there is only one client on that PC.

I cant change the permissions of the folder either

What "permissions" are you trying to change?

You might try going to the properties of the shared folder, Sharing tab, and unchecking the sharing box. Apply.

Then recheck the sharing box, choose a new name for the folder's network name in the box below, and then re-Apply.

Removing some spyware can also affect TCP/IP parameters. Supposedly this problem has been fixed in Ad-Aware 6 for builds above 158 which previously left some people unable to connect to anything. I've experienced the same problem with SpyBotSD.

To reinstall TCP/IP (really a "repair" since TCP/IP is considered part of the XP OS), go to Start, Run and type:

    cmd

    In the command window, type:

    netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

(substituting your system drive letter for "C:" if it is another letter).

The resetlog.txt file produced in your root directory will show the changes made if you are interested. It can be deleted.

"Take Ownership" of the folder. You didn't say Pro or Home so can't give specifics.

Forgot this article was there. Could have pointed you to it since it describes the process for both Home & Pro. But as a general rule, it is a good idea to specify which flavor of XP when posting a problem or question since they do behave differently in some instances.

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP

Are we talking access to the shared folder on the computer being used, or the one on another, networked computer?
