I was very happy with TB 2.0.0.24, and the few extensions I used with it made it do exactly what I wanted from an email program. So, I never upgraded, as I didn't like what Mozilla had done with 3.x and later versions ... for instance, I have absolutely no use for tabs in an email program.

Today, though, because of recent security concerns, I decided to give TB 6.0.2 a try. My initial concern was migrating my mail files to the new version, but that was accomplished without my having to do a thing ... score one for the TB developers.

I have figured out how to have messages and compositions open in a new window rather than a tab, but they open full screen. I can resize individual windows to make them smaller, but I haven't figured out how to make them always open in the smaller size.

    Any thoughts?

Resize a message window or a composition window, then close immediately. The sizes should now be retained by TB.

That was true in versions of TB up through 2.x, especially if the control key was pressed while closing the window, but that no longer seems to work, at least on my system.

After a message/composition window is open I can immediately resize it to a previously determined size with the "maximize/resize down" gadget in the upper right corner of the window, but the window still always opens full-screen.

If your fonts sizes are set larger than the defaults then those windows are probably forced to full screen. Or monitor resolution is set too low.

TB doesn't appear to have a default font setting. If there is, I can't find it. I tried setting my font size to a much smaller one, but the message/composition windows still open full-screen.

If you're talking about Win7's default font size, I was using a setting of 110% but, when I set it to the default 100%, TB's message/composition windows still open full-screen.

My 19" monitor's resolution is set to its max (native) resolution of 1280x1024.

    Close TB.

Try deleting localstore.rdf in your profile folder in C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\.......

I did that, but the situation remained unchanged. [FONT=Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif]

This morning, though, I realized I actually had a work-around available, a little freebie called AutoSizer, which I use to manipulate windows. I usually use it to maximize or center windows, but it can also be used to size and locate windows where the user wants them. Problem solved.

Thanks for your input, even though your suggestions didn't work for me.

I have egg on my face ... it turns out that AutoSizer was the cause of the problem, in addition to being the solution.

After dumping its database and rebooting to clear out anything in memory, TB's message and composition windows now open in the size and location I want them to without resorting to AutoSizer.

We've all had egg on our face at one time or another. Sometimes it even tastes better that way!
