    Hi fellow mates

    Situation:
I have a 2G pendrive that had been showing as removable disk on a xpWin sp2 PC only. Recently it suddenly shows as a floppy and there is no way to assess the 2G data.

    Notes:
1 It is common for this brand of Pendrive to have 2 partitions one as floppy and the other as Removable. In some brand & in some cases it appears as BOTH floppy & Removable in MyComputer.
2 Reformatting this Pendrive still shows only floppy.
3 Uninstalling the floppy drive, when inserted in the USB still pops up as floppy.
4 Uninstalling all USB universal host controller, problem persists.
5 Problem Pendrive shows as Removable in all other xpwin-sp2 PC.
6 Other pendrives show as removables in the problem PC ie no problem with other pendrives on the problem PC.

Exhausted trying and searching for leads; Please HELP!!

    Period - Solution: Mapping conflict

Thanks paul but it has nothing to do with bios as there was no changes.

The cause is H: Drive assigned by the system to the USB removable is already occupied by a mapping to another hard drive in the network. Aflter removing this mapping, the USB removable pops up as H: drive.

This sign of this cause was revealed on clicking the properties of the Floppy which then shows the additional UBS removable as another device; which on populate shows that is assigned as H: drive .. all these prompts the answers.
Hope this will help others who face similar dilemma. Cheers.:)
