    :) System= AMD64 Windows XP x64edition 2gig ram

I'm getting an error in the system event viewer, During startup. (The PDIHWCTL service failed to start due to the following error The system canot find the file specified file.

I have been unable to fine out what this service referrs to. It is listed in the registry as pdihwctl.sys. Before I go hacking away I would like to know what the service is for and what program it belongs to.

Any help in this greatly appreciated

    Thank you

Did you try finding pdihwctl.sys on your system? If it's there right-click & try to get some file properties.

    PDIHWCTL.sys = Portrait Displays Inc

    Thank you Arie
For the reply. I have found the file under C:\windows\system32\drivers.
The company name is Portrait Displays Inc Version 2.10

The error occurs only when I boot into XP64 on I drive. I have Win XP installed on C drive. I have checked the event viewer and have not found
any errors pertaining to this file.

From the company website it seams they have alot to do with screen roataion.

Why would Xp 64edition on I:/ look for a file under Winxp on C:/?

    Thank you again

It's not looking for the file on C:/

Something in XP64 suggests the driver should be there, so I suggest installing your software. The driver is compatible with XP64 according to their web site: http://personalcomputing.portrait.com/us/products/pp_overview.html

PDIHWCTL.sys = Portrait Displays Inc continued

Thank you for getting back to me

That is the puzzling thing. I have not knowingly installed any software from
this company. I'm woundering though if it came as part of the video card software. I have an ATI x1300 AGP card and I have installed the drivers and their software as I would have normally. Thanks for the help I will email Portrait Displays to see if they can be of any help.

    Thank you
