Can PDF files carry executable viruses in them?

The article said the PDF file will carry a VBS virus. I have those set to confirm before opening and I also have those files set to open up in Notepad instead of executing. That's a very interesting problem. I will certainly be very careful when I open a PDF file from now on.

… it would also appear that only Acrobat (not Reader) is vulnerable. AFAIK, this is the only virus which currently affects PDF files. But who know what the future may hold!
