I have problem using a new PCMCIA USB2 CARDBUS -VIA Technologies- (to get 4 more USB posts) which detects with no problem the mouse, the flashdiscs but not my external hard drive (LG 500GB).
The hard disc works perfectly when I connect it directly to my lap top.

Is the external hard disk powered separately or drawing power from USB ? If its drawing power from USB, the USB card might not be able to supply the reqd. power.

It's powered from the USB, and I think that you're right because when I used it a hard disc powered externaly it worked normaly.
Is there a solution for that problem?? Thank you.

Aside from powering it externally I don't think there is any solution to it.

connecting your LG 500 GIG to a powered USB Hub connected to your USB2 CARDBUS, not exactly brilliant.

Return the pcmcia card and get a compact usb hub. I have one for my laptop that I paid about 10 bucks for, it also came with a power supply that can be used if needed be. example
