    Hello all,

I am working on fixing up my roomate's computer. When you try and boot it up it says that the pci.sys file is missing and it can't get into windows.....or any variation of safe mode. He has XP. Online I keep reading that all I need to do is expand the pci file. Whenever I attempt to do this manually in dos it doesn't work. If I move the file to that folder in dos it moves but has no effect. Someone please help. Thanks,

    Matthew

As your roomate is running XP, boot from the install CD to the Recovery Console and follow the steps here
Note that you must specify the Windows directory - generally C:\Windows and not C:\Winnt as shown in the text of that URL.
