I posted this to General Discusion, but realize it should have been in hardware.

    I just ordered a DVD+/-RW drive.

All of my IDE positions are currently occupied. I was thinking of adding a PCI IDE card for this drive. Question I have is will it work as an additional IDE position, or does it replace the current IDE connections.

Anybody done this?? I could remove my existing CDRW drive, but I'd like to leave it in place.

    Thanks Sparrow.

I had looked at card descriptions at several other web sites, none were clear as to whether the channels were additional or just upgrading existing channels.

Now I know, and I ordered that card.

    Thanks again, Martin :)

Arie, sorry about the double post, I know better, I had just posted the original in the wrong forum. Didn't know how to move it. Mea Culpa

PCI IDE card by SCM got here this morning, Installed it along with DVD+RW drive and as a bonus, I had a 40 gig drive laying around, so I stuck that on too.

XP found the new hardware w/o a hitch, installed both drives. So, now I got the + drive and an extra 40 gigs of storage. I am a happy camper. :D

Counting the floppy, I now have 11 drives on this machine, getting hard to keep track of what is where. but :D

That leaves two positions open to add more drives.........hmmmm

    Appreciate the help on this.

Besides, 2 more would give me 13, a number I hesitate to even write down.

Glad to see you are keeping an eye on me!
