I have windows 98 on my computer. I ran
into some trouble and every time I boot
up I get asked to install a driver
for a "PCI COMMUNICATIONS DEVICE "
I have all the drivers on a CD disk but
I do not know what driver it is askiing
for. Also my moden is installed but
cannot be found when I try to use it.
This may be connected to my PCI
problem and it may not be connected.

What kind of driver is a
    "PCI COMMUNICATIONS DEVICE" looking
for and what would the device be?

The drivers are on a restore cd and I
have to point to the exact driver.

    Thanks, Jerry

99% of the time, a "PCI Communications Device" refers to a modem. Since the computer can't communicate with the modem, even if Device Manager says it's installed, it isn't apparently installed completely or correctly.

The first thing to try is double-click on the Modem listed when you click on the plus sign next to Modem in Device Manager, go to the Drivers tab, click on the Update Drivers button and tell it to look on the CD for the drivers.

If that doesn't work, remove the Modem in Device Manager. That will probably demand a reboot so do so and when Windows starts trying to install it automatically, tell it you "Have Disk" when that button appears and point it at the modem drivers on the CD.

    Another maybe?
Some Modems require the drivers to be installed before the modem is detected correctly. Find out what modem it is. You may have to unplug the modem from the PCI connector to get model # details. Reinstall the modem, load the latest W98 drivers you've found. The modem may be picked up or you may need to reboot again?
