All of a sudden I get a new hardware installed, pci controller and when I click it it bring up the wizard to install. I haven't installed any new hardware. What could be wrong. I keep getting this prompt everytime I turn on my computer.

What happens if you let it finish the install?

Do you have any errors in Device Manager?

What is your computer model? Is it dell ?

The “PCI Simple Communications Controller” is part of the modem and the modem drivers should handle that Device Manager entry. Try installing the modem drivers from the CD and see if that helps. If not, try removing that and any other modem entries from the Device Manager, restart and then try reinstalling the modem again.

I suggest that you open the tower and take out the modem PCI. Than put it back in and make sure its in firmly. reconnect your comp and if your running XP the comp should automatically recognize the modem.
