    Hi,

I've been using this forum to get help with my laptop and thought maybe someone could advise me on how to go about fixing my PC.

For the past few months my PC has been stuttering and stalling. A first I thought the mouse was hanging up as it would not move for several seconds every now and then. But then it became obvious that the whole system was stalling out. When I used ITunes the music would stutter and stop at the same time as the mouse stuttering would occur.

I ran virus and malware scans and was using a reputable firewall. Nothing was found. I also ran HiJackThis and used an autoanalyzer - again finding nothing.

Now my PC won't boot at all. It just runs through the memory test and hen shuts off.

Is there anything I can do or check or does this need to be looked at by a pro?

I would start by Going to Microsoft ( or any other place that has a free tester) and down load the FREE Memory tester.
It will build a bootable CD, which you can boot to check out your memory.

A very popular one is here http://www.memtest.org/

Remember to run ALL tests a number of times.

If you have multiple RAM installed on your computer & you are okay fiddling with hardware, I would recommend that you take out all the RAM modules & insert them one at a time, running the memory tester on each. This would throw up the faulty module.

Thank you both. I did the tests and with some help from a more computer liiterate friend, my PC is back up and running.
