Hi, my laptop (Toshiba Satellite 220CS) restarts (a hard reset) itself before it displays the icons on my desktop, it does display the wallpaper though. In safe mode I opened up system properties (in control panel), the device manager tab shows no problem
    the performance tab:
    76% of system resources free(its normally 80-90%)
file system:some drives are using MS-DOS compatibility
PC cards: no pc cards sockets are installed (i have two)
in the box below i have:
compatibility-mode paging reduces overall system performance
drive a is using MS-Dos compatibility
drive c is using MS-Dos compatibility

the code page my laptop uses is 850, which is the one it has used since i bought it, but this appears at startup:
    C:\mode con codepage prepare=((850) C:\windows\command\ega.cpi)

Code page operation not supported on this device

    C:\mode con codepage select=850
    Device error during select

though I have restarted my laptop several, after posting the message, I restarted it again (and I didn't change any settings) it now works, but takes an extra 5-10mins to turn on.

    my laptop instead of saying
    code page operation not...
    and
    device error...

    now says:
MODE prepare code page function completed
    and
MODE select code page function completed
