Hi all, The volume of my onboard (ASUS) PC speaker is way too
loud. I am getting complaints from the neighbors and have to
    use earplugs at boot-up.
Incredibly, I cannot find a way to quieten/silence it- nothing
in Control Panel. Most searches say it cannot be done - but I
am sure someone here knows how ...
    regards

I don't know of anyway to control the volume (there may be a way) but until you find out you could always unplug it. Do you have one of those that talks to you? If so, and this is what's bothering you, you can disable that in the bios. You then get the beeps as in any other bios instead of the voice.

    Giffyo,
Many thanks for the link !
The PC speaker is now controllable.
Zander - thanks for the post and good idea - I have never
opened a PC box so I do not know how to follow up your tip -
anyway the PC speaker sound is now down to an acceptable
level thanks to Giffyo's post, this board, and all it's very
    erudite members.
    regards
