    Hi,

I'm on a Dell Dimension 4600 with XP Home in it. I have already completely reinstalled the OS and all hardware related drivers and the such. I give up now.....

The machine will boot up quite quickly. When you go to open Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer or Device Manager...or whatever......the machine just seems to tire right out and freezes up whatever you're trying to do.

The cursor will still be mobile but completely ineffective to "X-ing" out of anything. Even if you have a web page open, you can click on the bottom of the screen to close it and no way will it shut down or go away. The reset switch is the only way out of anything you want to do.

I've been playing with this thing for a couple of days now and finally formatted and reinstalled the OS. No dice. It's the same slow death for this box. Thing is, I had this thing buzzing real nice yesterday and then the slow death started and there is no way out.

Crazy Control-Alt-Delete doesn't work in it either which doesn't help much to see resources or anything.

It's a nice machine.....512 RAM, 2.4 processor.....so why does it do this roll over and play dead thing to me?????? :(

    Please Help Me??????????

    Randy

Okay.....I guess I should have actually formatted the drive rather than just deleted its contents while its drive was in another machine.....(long story).

Now the PC runs like a scalded dog all the time except for when I log onto the net via high speed connection. The PC just gives it up such that there are not resources enough to bring up the Task Manager to check the resources situation.

Any ideas, considering that the drivers for the network card are right up and all????

I have NO idea here, folks.

Suggest you open up Task Manager before connecting to the internet to see which process is taking up 100% CPU - which I guess is what is happening.

    Okay,

I installed a network card to bypass the onboard unit and no problem at all. What is it with these proprietary systems? Always something frying......LAN card, CDRW....always something.

Thanx to everyone who pondered and especially to PeteC
