Patchy disappearing fonts

Hey there,

A friend of mine has a problem regarding fonts, they don't seem to render properly. This is apparent over all parts of the system, like dialog boxes, Internet Explorer etc.

Sometimes they are patchy and don't display properly. They have to be highlighted before they can be read.

Any suggestions?

 

The first thing I would try is an SFC (System File Check)
Start > Run > cmd
sfc /scannow
You will need your XP disk.
