    Hi,

We have a problem copying an article and then trying to paste it into MS Word 2002.

This problem started last night. We tried to reboot the computer and try again but that didn’t work.

After the computer was shut down over night, we tried to copy & paste a different article this morning and again it didn’t work.

We get and hour glass for our mouse pointer and then nothing happens. If we try to close the Word document, we get a message that the program is not responding, and then it closes.

Any suggestions for a solution of this problem will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Where is the article comming from? A web site?

    How Large is it?

When you first open Word, click on View and select Web Layout before pasting...

Have you tried pasting into any other program like Notepad or MS Paint.

Hi Steve, Thanks for the reply.

It's a web page but I don't know the size. I actually chose Print so I could copy just what I wanted.

I never had this problem before regardless of the size.

I tried View, Web Page in Word and the same thing happens.

I can copy & paste in Works Word Processor, Wordpad and Notepad without problems.

Something must have changed in Word to create this problem.

I may have to uninstall Word and then reinstall it to see if that helps.

This used to happen to me quite a lot. The problem for me was that when I would copy-paste a web page, it would copy all of the graphics as well, which would cause that inevitable hourglass. Wordpad and Notepad don't bother to insert graphics or other heavier content (than text), so that's why they probably didn't give you a problem. What I had to do (not much of a problem, because I simply wanted the text), was to go to Edit>Paste Special, then select unformatted text. Word would always insert that material immediately.

Of course, that only works if you are interested in text only.

I have been using Word 2002 for almost two years now and never had any problems with copying & pasting.
All of the sudden, last night, I started having problems.

Maybe it's Microsoft's new stealth updates which take place regardless of how your computer is setup to receive updates. They are installed whether you want them or not.

    Sounds like spyware to me.

Apparently anything that has graphics in it will not allow copying & pasting into Word.

I've been copying personal checks that I write to charities, for IRS records, and now I can't even copy one check and paste it into a Word document. I've been doing this since January 2007 without problems until just recently.

When I send the Error Report to Microsoft, it keeps noting that Office needs updates but when I try to update, it notes something about my Office verification failed.

I finally installed the Office Updates and after sending the error report about Word 2002 several times, I received the following answer:

"Problem caused by Microsoft Word 2002: consider upgrading
The problem was caused by Microsoft Word 2002, which was created by Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft Word 2002 is in its "Extended Support" phase. This phase of support for Microsoft Word 2002 began on July 11, 2006. Only security-related solutions are created by Microsoft for this version of Microsoft Office.
    Recommendation

Consider upgrading to the latest version of Microsoft Office to receive full support. Go online to learn how to upgrade.
We also recommend that you periodically go to the Office Update website. This will help to ensure that your computer stays updated with the latest updates to Microsoft Office. "

If you don't know what you are talking about it is better not to say anything.

These so called 'stealth updates' are just updates to the Windows Update program files itself, and have nothing to do with any other software.
