Just spent way to long trying to 'paste special' a Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object into a Word 2000 document.

The pasted Object was behaving strangely when I tried to format it. The reason turned out to be that the pasted item winds up in the header field of the Word document - no matter what I do. View Header/Footer is not active - it just goes there.

Pasting into Word as RFT or unformatted text - it goes into the proper part of the doc - but not the Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object. Can anyone explain why this is happening and how I get it out of the header and onto the body of the document?

When you select a range of cells in an Excel worksheet click 'copy" and then open a Word document and click Edit/Paste Special/Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object/OK.

It pastes into the header (click view header/footer to confirm - you will see what I mean) instead of the body of the Word document.

If you paste special/RTF or unformatted text etc this does not happen but the format and layout are bad. Also when in the header - you can't do things like add page breaks to the Excel originating items.

Well I never tried it before, but I can copy/paste anything (cells/sheet) into the body of a new word document at the cursor
position in a new untitled word document - maybe check the position of the the cursor in word is correct before pasting ?
Looks just like the original XL when I do it.
This is 98SE / Word 2000. Maybe reinstall Office - it is so complex that small errors can crop up continually.
    good luck and regards

    Merlin,

    Thanks for trying this.

One clarification "“ Are you using the "Paste Special" (not "˜Paste’) command? In addition, are you selecting "Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object" as the Special Paste option?

That is where it becomes trouble for me. Also, the only way to see that it is really in the header of the Word Doc is when you click "View Header/Footerâ€

I'm trying to paste a linked Excel spreadsheet into a letterhead template for a budget proposal that will look nice without having to redo the word doc every time I change the numbers in the spreadsheet.

In the worksheet, select whatever cells you want.
    Right click. Select "Copy ".
Open Word. (Do not exit the worksheet)
Right click where the cursor is (body of document)
    Click "Paste "
    That works OK for me.
    regards

    Hi All,

Here is the fix that worked - posted to another bbs:

    *********************************************

In Excel, select the cells to be copied and click Copy icon.

In Words, click Edit / Paste Special
In the Paste Special dialog box, select Paste and MS Excel Worksheet Object then click OK.

The copied object can be moved anywhere when you move the cursor in the object and see the 4-arrow cursor. If not, right click it and select Format Object. In the position tab, check Float over object.

    ***********************************************

    Thanks to all for responding.
