I.m running XP Pro. Is there a way to stop past items icons from appearing in the past items list in Customize Notifications without disabling the function entirely?

When you use AV are you referring to Anti-Virus? If so I'd rather not mess with AV or the script. I was hoping for a registry tweak. I feel more comfortable in the reg. What does it do to AV anyway?

The script does nothing more than delete a couple of registry entries. As for the Antivirus thing, Abraxas was just saying that you're Antivirus may see this as a virul type thing, though it's not. If you want to do it manually, in regedit go to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ TrayNotify
. In the right pane delete both the "IconStreams" and "PastIconStreams" entries. Reboot your computer or else kill and restart Explorer for the change to take effect. If you do this, it removes all entries and you'll be starting from square one again.

I know how to delete the items through the reg. I was wondering if there was a reg tweak that will just prevent the past icons from entering the past items list? I can turn off notification area clean up. By this path: H_KEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ MIcrosoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer \ NoAutoTrayNotify 0x00000001 (1). But with this reg key you cant hide the icons in the tray. In the start menu properties\ Taskbar this reg key greys out the customize button, and the hide inactive icons button. Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

It's really an all or nothing thing. It's on, with its features. Or it's off.
