How can I notify, or remind users, through Active Directory, to change password xx days before?

    MS Net send.
    Would this work for you?
Do you need / want to stay with MS product or is 3rd party allowed?

Am talking about the default 14 day notification for Active Directory which is not working!

    I set:

Interactive logon: Prompt user to change password before expiration..

I set this option to begin prompting 1 day before password expires.. But is not working..

    I use the following procedure
    1. Run Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
    2. From the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following key:
    \Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
    3. Add or modify the following entry:
    PasswordExpiryWarning: REG_DWORD: <number of days>
    4. Click OK and quit Registry Editor.

but it still does not works

I Googled PasswordExpiryWarning and got approx 692 results.

One of those results is a forum thread that finally suggests the string should be all lowercase (passwordexpirywarning). Unfortunately, the thread does not have a follow-up indicating whether the suggestion worked or not. :(

While many of those Google links specify the case as you have shown, the all lowercase idea might be worth a shot.

I checked my own (Windows XP Home SP2) registry at the location you specified and the string is indeed all lowercase. (To the best of my knowledge, I have never manually edited that key.)

This thread states the registry edit must be done on each computer that you wish to configure.

If those ideas don't work, I guess I'd run sfc /scannow to be sure all Windows protected system files are present and proper versions.

This is unfamiliar territory for me so I am currently at a loss for further suggestions.
