I have a Gateway with a Windows 98 OS. I recently bought a WD 80 GB hard drive to install with my 10GB, using the 80 as Master and the 10 as the slave. Should I partition the 80 and how do I do it? What are the advantages of doing so and the disadvantages? Can someone advise me on this? Also need to transfer only some of my programs from the old to the new. I want to install the OS on the new one and can I drag and drop the programs I want to keep and how do I do that?:D

    MJ,

You will need to FDISK your drive to make the partitions. Here is a site that will give you some instructions for that. As far as partition size, that's would be up to you.

Personally, I have the OS on one partition and my programs on another. I figured this would be easier in case I needed to rebuild the OS. That way, I could just format the C: drive, reload, and my important files would be okay. There would be some programs to reload, but at least my files would still be there.

As far as transferring the programs, do you have the disks? If so, just reload them to your new drive and then copy any work files, from that program, to the new drive. Your programs will work much better that way.
