I just realized that my free version of Paragon Partition manager won't let me reinstall and start the trial period over again. I'd rather not pay $40-50 which is the price of a hdd on sale, just to get pro partition software. Is there any software that I can d/l for free, that will let me shrink a partition? All the ones I've tried won't let me shrink until I pay. I've tried Acronis; Seagate has a utility that works with partitions, but I don't have any seagate hardware on my laptop.

After burning an iso with Gparted I get an boot options for the disk, but no matter what I select I get a blank screen. They did mention dependencies (which is one reason why I stopped trying to install Linux, but not the only one) that were tarballed files...I figured if I used the iso I could avoid that issue....

Partition Logic didn't even see my hard drives

Anyways I may just pony up cash for a larger hdd. I can always partition that as I want to...

    Thanks anyways

Well I know this is possible---I did this quite well w/ both my laptop and desktop, with Paragon, but this goofed up again. Parted's live cd had error messages while booting, then stopped after the main page said it was checking usb drives.

Thanks for the links anyways. At this point like I said I'd be better off with a new hdd that I can partition at that point.
