I have a WD 100 gig HDD, it has 5 partitions.
All have been working fine, but now all the sudden I can't open 1 of the drives (F:)
When I try to open it from My Computer I get an error message
    "F:\is not a valid win32 application "

F drive is only used for storage, there is 5 or 6 movies on it now.
I am able to rename F drive, run scan disk (no errors found) and defrag it, when highlighted it shows on the left to be FAT32, total 26.9 gigs 23 gigs free, also no virus found.

Running dual boot Win 98SE and XP pro, I get the same error message in both.
Should I run the WD diag. tools disk?
I would like to be able to save the movies on it.

Have you initiated compression on this drive?

1st in XP go to command prompt type

    chkdsk f: /r

    What now?

What does XP disk manager say about this drive?

    If still problem

Use a DOS boot floppy boot to dos!

If you have NTFS these will be invisable in dos so the drive will be in a different position.

    Can you see it here?

    Get back!

    compression - no

did that at command prompt, everything shows to be fine FAT32

I just noticed, when I right click F: "autoplay" is on top of menu instead of "Open "

I removed my cd burner to send it in for repair, did the drive letters just get messed up?

OK the drive shows up correctly in DOS.

Yes it is something in XP and Win98.

In XP look in control panel-administrative tools-computer management-Disk management.

What does it say about the f: drive and CD?

While here look at logical drives?

If the CD is not physiaclly in your computer the remove it from device manager if there and reboot.

    Get back with results.

Disk management shows it to be Healthy FAT32 like the others.
the DVD rom shows there as J:

the cd burner is not in the computer.
I did not remove it from device manager, it is not there now.

Think it will go back to normal when I put the CD back in?

I think if you can do without the drive and it will be a short time untill the CDRW comes back.

Yes leave it alone and we will tackle it then if that does not correct it.

I will be interested to know it if that fixes it.
