hi, when experimenting with partition magic 8, i chose to install a new operating system, it rbooted and now says 'Invalid system disk, remove the disk and press any key'......

i would like to know if i can install partitio magic 8 on my dad's PC and create a special bootable floppy disk to get rid of the empty partition that is causing the problem......

Please tell me if more information is required

    Thanks,

    Liam :(

Somebody will correct me if I am wrong, but it sounds like you created a new Primary Partition, destroying your installed operating system in the process. Go to Bootdisk, and download the file appropiate for your OS, go with OEM in either case. Double click this file with a floppy in the drive, and a boot floppy will be created for you.
Boot the computer with it, type in Fdisk at the prompt, and you could choose any partition you like to delete. However, this will not make the drive bootable, as you can have only one Primary Partition, the drive will not boot without it.
Format the partition, [c:], and install windows.
If you have XP, the CD should be bootable.

I agree with Mark's analysis - first rule 'Read the prompts', especially when messing about with hard drives :D

    just a thought...

When paddyslammer created a 'new' partition to install an operating system PartitionMagic more than likely *hid* the other OS partition to allow the new OS to boot. If you make the PartitionMagic boot disk you should be able to set your original OS partition active and delete the other partition (if you so choose). HTH

    Sorted

    Hi,

Thank you for all the help, i have now got it sorted.
I basically created a rescue disk and deleted the partition that was causing my computer to not boot.

    Thanks again,
