When I try to run PSP 7 I get the following:

PSP has caused an error in MFC42.DLL PSP will now close

I found 4 copies of MFC42.DLL on my machine. What do I need to do in order to be able to run PSP again?

    ( Windows ME, P-II 450, 264 RAM )

    Thank you in advance!

Did a quick browse on http://www.jasc.com.au/html/pspfaq.html
and came up with a similar problem with PSP 6- you could try the solution they recommend to see if it works with your V7.1.

A more detailed browse of their site may tell you about your version. As I said I only had a quick glance.

    Harpost,
If you haven't fixed your problem, try the following that I got from the Tech Support staff at PSP. It worked for me when I was having problems with PSP performing Illegal operations. Maybe it will work for this problem too.
    *********************
    Close Paint Shop Pro,
Click "Start," choose "Run," and type "REGEDIT" in the Open text entry box.
Click OK. This will open the Registry Editor. When the Registry Editor opens, click Registry>Export Registry File, choose a filename and location to save the file, then hit the save key to save the file. The program will
automatically add a REG extension on to the specified filename when it is saved. This file can serve as a backup if necessary. After this backup procedure, we can move on to deleting the Paint Shop Pro registry key.

Click on the plus sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER. You will see a list of HKEYS drop down underneath this HKEY. One of these HKEY's is called Software.
Click on the plus sign next to Software. You will see a list of HKEYS drop down underneath the Software HKEY. One of these HKEY's is called Jasc.
Click on the Word Jasc to highlight this key. Hit the delete key on your keyboard, then confirm the deletion when prompted. After deleting the Jasc HKEY, you can close the Registry Editor.

Launch Paint Shop Pro. It will act like a fresh installation.

Thank you for contacting Jasc Technical Support.
