    Hi,

Since about a week ago I have been having problems with pages on sites that I visit not loading or timing out. This is happening a lot. There are a couple of forums that I help to moderate, and up till last Saturday/Sunday everything was working just fine, but for the past week my internet has been sluggish, and said problems have been taking place.

At times one forum will load and another won't.. even my email clients won't load/open most of the time.

I am on dial-up and I use Windows XP. Sometimes trying to connect to the internet is also a problem and I get a message which says that 'connection to the remote computer could not be established', or words to that effect. When I do get connected, for the most part, the computer icon (on the task bar) that shows that I am connected and which would usually light up to show activity, it sits there hardly lighting up at all. I contacted my internet provider about it but to be honest, they only pass the buck, they told me to make sure that my phone line, the one I use to connect to the internet, doesn't have any interference or something like that. I checked with the phone company and they said my line is fine. No one can or would say what could be wrong. As a matter of fact, I cannot even connect to the internet without adding an extra initialization setting to my phone and modem options, and reducing the speed for which I can connect to the internet.

My modem is new, computer as well.

I had a problem similar to this before, and I remember someone here telling me at the time to go to my network connection settings or to the phone and modem options and add some string of letters and numbers I think it was, and it had helped at the time. But that was a long time ago and I cannot remember what it was.

Any help with this or any suggestions will be more than appreciated. I work online part-time as well so this is very frustrating for me.

    Thanks in advance.

PS: I forgot to add that I checked for viruses as well and found nothing.

    Thanks
