What do folks here think of shrinking the pagefile.sys file?

I recently upgraded to 8 gigs of ram (from 4), and found that my pagefile.sys file was now 8 gigs or thereabouts (it was set to let Windows manage it). My C partition was short on space, so I shrank it to 1 gig.

What do people here recommend? I've read online that it is only for computers with low memory, or with very very high RAM demands. I don't have either--no gaming at all on this laptop.

Hi Paul. You should just let Windows manage the size of the page file. If the page file is not large enough then you could run out of virtual memory and it could cause some programs to crash.

I personally wouldn't reduce the size of the page file. Just leave it at the 8 GB's that its at now. If you want to free up some disk space, remove temporary files, uninstall programs that you don't use, extend your hard drive's partition, or disable hibernation if you don't use it.

OK, thanks, I'll start a new thread on extending my C partition. Not sure its possible, but I'll see if it can be done.
