    Hi,
Something has happened to my Paint program in Windows XP Home.

I now have to click on "File ", "Page Seup" and then I have to uncheck "horizontal" and "vertical" under "Centering" and then Click "Fit To" under "Scaling ". ( I didn't have to do this previously)

If I don't do this my pasted image is not centered in Paint.

Is there a way to change these settings somewhere (Registry?) so I don't have to go to Page Setup and change these setting everytime I use Paint?

    Thanks.

    Best Guesstimate....

Somewhere along the line you may have changed the default settings for "Attributes ". Perhaps if you reset to default, paint will act as expected:

    Clk Toolbar
    Clk Image
    Clk Attributes
From popup hit the "default" button
    Apply and close.

    Hi Goddez,
    Thanks for the reply.
    I couldn't find a "Toolbar ".
I clicked on "Image ", then "Attributes" and then "Default ", then "OK" but this did not change anything. I still have to click all the items as mentioned in my original post.

jslow--What happens if you resize the Paint window (by dragging edges and/or corners) so it is quite small before pasting the image? If I do that, Paint opens to a size pretty close to just accomodating the image.

Observations made while playing around with my mspaint....

Total canvas includes picture plus any background canvas. This is what will be centered.

If picture is smaller than canvas and not centered it will appear to be off center on a "print preview ".

If cavas is resized to fit picture or vis-versa, it will be centered.

The "page setup" settings, will revert to MSpaint default upon a close and open. There is no way to set and keep these. This is by design. I don't know if this is encoded in paint.exe or is a registry value. Frankly, I don't use paint. I tried looking around for ya' but this was turning into a time consuming task and was proving to be more difficult than I thought. I may still poke around as time permits and if I find something I will pin it to the post.

Attributes or canvas size, however, seem to be a bit more co-operative. Change the default and it sticks. Open a pic and save it and paint will open to the last sized used. [This is a potential problem if you ever open or save a picture set to huge size/attributes, paint tends to go bonkers. It may lock up, or take forever to load and be so bogged down you'd wish it had locked up].

The reason I suggested changing the attributes to default is because a larger canvas can appear to be off center on a print preview because it may be spread out over more than one page.

    ==========
If yours always pasted in the center, I'd be interested in how ya' did it, provided you can get it to do it again.

    Hi Welshjim & Goddez1,
    Thanks for the replies.

I changed the Attributes to default.

Now I get a full screen (plus I have to use the scroll bars on side & top to see the whole paste) whether I use the default or change the settings as I mentioned in my original post.
