I'm wondering what might be the best settings my virtual memory page/swap file. Here are some details of my present setup:

    Space available: 45230MB
    RAM: 2GB

    In Task Manager:
    Commit charge: Total: 865996
    Limit: 1938096
    Peak: 908944
    Physical Memory:
    Total 2094966
    Available 1033976
    System cache 1245016
    CPU Usage: 1%
    PF Usage: 838mb
    Processes: 65
    Commit charge 838MB/1892MB

In Start-Control Panel-System-Advanced-Settings-Advanced-Virtual Memory-Change I'm set up for the 'No Page File' option at present (no noticeable problems so far) but was considering manually setting the 'Custom' option and would be grateful to hear suggestions for that option:

    Initial (MB):
    Max size (MB):
By the way, beneath these blank-at-the-moment options it says:
    Minimum allowed: 2MB
    Recommended: 3067MB

So, what should I put in for 'Initial' and for 'Max'?

    Thank you.

Standard setting for a fixed size page file is Max & Min = 1.5 x installed RAM.
I wonder if your other thread on desktop icons freezing is caused by this?

So, should the 'Initial Size' I mention above (Windows says not less than 2MB) be 1.5 X RAM and the 'Maximum' the same also?

I don't believe my 'freezing' problem was caused by the 'No Page' option since I only set that option last night.

    Many thanks!

Yes, both values should be the same.

Thanks. I forget to mention that in choosing the 'No Page' option there is no possibility available for inserting initial and maximum values. Only in choosing 'Custom' can I do that, so I presume that your advice is still valid for the 'Custom' option.

    A fixed pagefile is 'Custom'.
