I reinstalled XP on a new hard drive and all went well except that the login screen says Owner instead of my name. How can I change that?

if you mean your user name...

Start >> Settings >> Control Panel >> User Accounts

under the "or pick an account to change ", click the profile called "Owner ". Then click "Change My Name ".

    Hope this helps!

Sorry, I made a mistake. The boot up welcome screen is fine, it says my name. It is the dialog box on my password protected screensaver that says owner on it instead of my name. That is what I would like to change...:(

I have the regular screen saver on and it is password protected, if there is no activity for 20 minutes it kicks on. When i come back to the computer and the screen saver is activated I will be prompted for a password. What it says is that the computer is locked and only the Administrator/Owner can unlock the computer.

The user name has "Owner" and beneath it has a place to type in password.

Try going to Control Panel, System, Computer Name. I don't know why yours says "Owner ", I just looked at my after screensaver box, and it has my name.

mojo13 - that screen should give the name of the currently logged in user.

    - Are you logging in?
    - Do you have a user account "Owner "

I'm not sure if this is just a minor annoyance or a sign that something is broken. The behavior isn't normal for sure.

The screen should be pulling the information from your registry so try a search for Owner and see where it shows up. If it's at a login location, try changing the value to the user account you do use. That may get it sane again.

Looking in Windows Explorer I see that in Documents and Settings I have "All Users" and "Owner "

In Control Panel/ User Accounts my name is shown.
When I boot up my name is shown on the login screen.

When I stop the password protected screensaver, "Owner" is shown in the user name box.

Can I just rename "Owner" in Documents and Settings?

If you could (and it is possible) you probably wouldn't like the results.

Were it me, I would create a new user account and Copy the things over from Owner you wanted to keep and then delete the Owner account.
