My question is this.. Can I upgrade win98FE, with my old copy of Win98SE? I have read that the best way to do this is from dos, but that involves having the floppy working. Is it worth the upgrade?
    (explanation)
My wife (a bookkeeper) inherited an old Compaq, from her boss's previous bookkeeper, that had all the installed programs but no reinstall disks. Win 98 FE.
We talked her boss into getting a new computer (AMD 2500+)I copied the old hard disk to the new Seagate using Disk Wizard.moved the new hard disk into the new machine after deleting the hkey-local machine-enum key in regedit. When I booted up, windows found all the new hardware, fine. I installed new mobo drivers (Via 4 in1) etc. (There was some swearing until I got the CD working, and I am not entirely sure about the floppy yet. (machine came without one, put one in, still haven't got it running yet, after several trips to bios.
In device manager I have finally managed to remove all duplicate devices ad everything seems to be running ok now.

I now run XP on our new family machine, but she wants Win98 SE(that we used to use on the old family machine) on hers. She also wants to migrate the books from Business Vision Encore to Quick Books, but needs to run both in parallel for a few months.
Or is it possible to put in another hard disk and dual boot with win98FE on one and win98SE on the other?

You'll need the specific upgrade CD. I bought it a couple years ago (FE-->SE) for $4.95, so it was not the most wanted CD in the world or it would have cost more ;).

Here's one on Ebay. They are getting more now that the CD is not available from MS.

The upgrade may only be worth the trouble if you have specific issues. A friend recently needed to upgrade due solely to a problem with the synchronization of his Palm. FE would not recognize the USB device.

Over all, if you have all the Windows Updates for FE, you nearly have SE already. I'd opt for an even newer OS if you want to go the dual boot route.

And, yes, you can install SE on a separate partition. I use GAG as a boot manager to choose what OS to boot.
