I run Win98SE. When It's corrupted in the past I've just install Win98SE on top of the previous version to stop me having to format etc. This time however it's saying that the version is different and I need to use an upgrade disk. If understand there is an "ini" file that if I delete it, it will install OK.

    Is this correct?
    What/where is this file?

    ta,

Which version of SE in on the machine ?

Which version is on the CD ? Or in the setup files if they are on the HD ?

One problem with SE is that there are three different CDs,

    Full
    Upgrade
    Update. $20 version

The UPGRADE may or may not go on top of the UPDATE

But the UPDATE will not go over the UPGRADE

Also the UPDATE reinstall must be started from within Windows. That is why I trashed my UPDATE CD. Windows would not run in the first place.

Also are you booting from the HD ( which I never do anyway ) or a Floppy ( which I always do ) ?

I have had that make a difference.

    No!

    Do not delete any ini.

    Do this

    command prompt

    type

    cd\windows

    then

    ren win.com win.bak

    Now do your install.
