I can open, read and receive emails normally in Outlook 2003. However, when I try to create, reply or forward emails, it starts Word 2003 and freezes. I have to shut down Outlook with ctl alt delete. I also freeze in internet options when I try to change the email editor to use notepad instead of Word 2003. I can make changes to use notepad in options of Outlook and I am able to create, reply and forward but I prefer to use Word as my email editor. It sounds to me as if there my be a problem with Word, but I can open and use word outside of Outlook. The following are the details of the error report for sending to MS.

*Error message when trying to forward, reply or create email:

    szAppName : OUTLOOK.EXE szAppVer : 11.0.6353.0 szModName : hungapp

*Error message when trying to change Internet Options.

If you uncheck the editor option (which is what i do) Outlook will become the editor and does a fine job!

Using Word as the editor has been a problem for many people for a long time..

I assume you are talking about the Options > Mail Format > Message Format? I have done that and yes it works, however, my signature tag does not show up when I do this, although show pictures in email is selected. The problem just started today and has worked fine in the past.

I did further research on the internet and found this which appears to have corrected the problem (for now anyway).

QUESTION: How do you prevent Microsoft Word documents attached to an Outlook e-mail message from opening in the "reading layout" view in Word?

Answer: You need to first open a document in MS Word as that is where the setting is making it do this. This is NOT something that Outlook is doing. Once you have a document open (any document will do), then in Microsoft Word on the Tools menu, click Options, click the General tab, and then clear the Allow starting in Reading Layout check box (the one item by itself on the upper right side of the General dialog box). Then click OK.
