I have three computers all running Windows 7. On all three of them Outlook has failed at one time or another to open. I have spoken to Microsft and they say they can only help if it happens while I am online to them. I have heard of several other people who have this problem and so far every fix I have tried has worked for about a month. Surely this si a job for Microsoft unless someone here has a permanent answer.

Have you consider calling MS "next" time it happens like they suggested?

It's pretty tough fixing something that isn't broken at the time you call;)

What version of Outlook are you using? Is this the same Key Code used on all 3 computers?

Unfortunately it usually happens either when the phones are red hot or I am out of the office. The last time I called them I was emailing them for nearly two hours.

    This worked for me:

Start type: outlook.exe /resetnavpane, press Enter.

I encountered this error just this week for the 1st time.

    Arie,
Thanks for that, I hope it stops me having to reinstall every time. Not quite true as occasionally I can get away with rebooting. I still think that there is a basic problem with Outlook and would like a permanent fix.

    Arie,
Well it happened on this computer tonight and unfortunately I couldn't get your fix to work. I understand that since Vista, you do not have to open a DOS box to put instructions in?? I typed in your exact phrase and it just searched for outlook. So I went back to reinstall. Any ideas or am I just being thick??

That indicates that either the Outlook executable is missing, or the path environment is missing/mis-configured.

It seems strange that it happens on three different computers. I'm not sure I understand about the executable missing or the path being wrong or missing. As I said I have two, genuine, copies of Outlook, one as a stand alone and one as part of an Office 2007 package. It happens with both and I have tried both copies on all three machines.
