I have Outlook Express running in XP.
I have a number of subfolders under the inbox.
If I expand the Inbox I can see all the subfolders, HOWEVER each time I close OE and then repoen, the expanded folder list is gone and only the basic list is there.
    Can anyone suggest a reason/fix
    Thanks

Jim, I think what dianamo is talking about here is that OE does not "remember" the expanded folder list. I have the same problem. I have a folder named "storage" under the in "Local Folders" with many sub folders under "Storage ". I click the + sign to expand the Storage folder and can see all the sub folders. When I close OE then reopen, the Storage folder is un-expanded. It won't stay expanded. Is there a way to make it do this? Holding the shift key and double clicking the top left hand icon on the page to close OE and make the veiw "stick" doesn't work as it does for some other apps.

I have essentially the opposite problem: When I log into OE, all folders are already expanded, even though I generally work with only one or two of them and prefer that the others remain unexpanded until I need them. Any suggestions for how to do this? I have tried unexpanding all sub-folders and folders, i.e., those tagged with a minus sign, until all of them have a plus sign in front, then closing OE. That works to keep sub-sub-folders from expanding at log-on, but nothing else. OE seems to offer no documentation about this issue, so I'm hoping someone out there can help. Thanks.

Jim, I appreciate getting the link. However, it appears not to address my problem. Thanks anyway.

Jim, thanks for the suggestion. I had tried Google before but must have not entered the right terms to get to the forums you suggested. I was able to find several ideas, one of which I tried: in OE, go to TOOLS>OPTIONS and click on the GENERAL tab; uncheck the box labeled "Automatically display folders with unread messages." Another suggestion was to ensure that all messages are marked as read in any folders that I don't want to have expanded automatically. This solution isn't perfect because the folder most recently opened will be expanded the next time I go to the Folders view, but at least now I don't have to scroll through so many to find what I want. Thanks again.:)
