    Hi there Guys!
I am running Win 98SE with Outlook Express 5.5, I have tried 6 but I have the same problem so I reverted back to 5.5. When I open Outllook Express it will just hang for several minutes and then open sometimes, other times I get this error message:-
An Exeption has occured at 0028:C003145E in VxD - - -.
    This was called from 0028:C002F9DD in VxD - - - .
I have tried to completely uninstall both IE 5.5 and Outlook Express 5.5 to have a clean install, but this seems to be impossible without a format, any ideas??

Try looking here John. It's a page that will allow you to input your error and do a search for it. May be a waste but worth a shot.

    Good luck.

Thanks Brett, there are some interesting things to try in there, I think I can discard the Nortons and Mc Fee virus checker theories, I have been using VET with Outlook Express for years.

Just a thought guys, I have installed Eudora 5.1 and I do not get the problem at all, this tells me that it is in fact an Outlook Express problem.

OK Guys, so after trying most of the stuff on here it appears that it is ONLY Outlook Express that is causing the problem, So how do I COMPLETELY remove all traces of OE and do a clean install?

I'm sorry you're having such a rough go there. Try the MS method for uninstalling and let's see how it goes.

Hi Zepher and thanks, Well I followed the 11 pages of the Microsoft instructions to the letter and uninstalled and did a clean install and it is still the same. One thing I have noticed, If I start up Outlook Express BEFORE I log on to the net, the Error does not happen. Would this suggest a conflict with DUN??

It used to be that when Outlook Express was uninstalled then reinstalled a problem would develop between it and the existing DUN connectiods. Try deleting and recreating the existing ISP connections. Be sure to copy down the Properties settings for each.

    Uninstall IE ...

This is not for the faint of heart ... and having GOBACK is a must... but I had a devil of a time with IE ... the biggest thing was that it refused to let me download and I could never do Window update. So some where I found IEradicator ... a program that totally remove any trace of IE on your system ... just reading the directions gave me such a pause that I thougt I wanted to stay at least a mile from this utility ... but I got brave and read and read and read and read between the lines and as scary and powerful as this utility is I survived it ...
