If I close Outlook Express, it will not reopen. I must either reboot the system or go into Task Manager and end the process "msimn.exe ". I am running XP Pro Version 6.0.2800.1106 Update version SP1. Is there a fix that will enable me to re-open OE without the procedures described above.

Hello 'bob and welcome to Windows BBS ...... :) ...... !

Go to Task List Programs , scroll down to msimn and see if their comment applies to Your situation.

Thanks Christer. I have seen that work around before. I am running Norton AntiVirus version 11.0.2.4 as part of the System Works Suite. I update the software regurlary. That doesn't appear to be the problem for me.

    Does that mean NSW 2005?

I have never used that critter but try disabling e-mail scanning and see if it helps. If it does, try Your luck with SS (Symantec Support).

Yes it is part of NSW Premier for 2005. I tried disabling email scanning and it didn't solve the problem. I have had NAV for years. Earlier as a stand alone and for the past few years as part of NSW. I have had the "will not reopen" problem for a while and am just getting around to addressing it. Unfortunately I don't know what I did before it started that may have caused the problem.

Have You made any changes that can be related in time?

Some people who have uninstalled Windows Messenger (the program, not the service) experience slowdowns in opening and closing OE. It is said that closing the contacts pane (left hand) releaves the problem.

Are You on dial-up or broadband?

What happens if You disconnect (pull the plug) from the web?

I went google on the problem but didn't find much ...... :( ...... am still trying though.

    Hi Christer,

I have been involved with the preparation for and successful installation of SP2 on my two computers. Now I am back to addressing the problem at hand. Now let me answer your questions.
    1. Closing the contact pane does not resolve the problem.
    2. If I disconnect from the web the problem still occurs.
    3. I too have Googled but to no avail.

I appreciate your effortws and will keep trying to find the answer.

Most crashes and failed start-ups in OE are caused by corrupted dbx files. Try this, open OE, then click File, Folder and click Compact All. Close OE and reopen it to check that it now works.
