    Recently I have been unable to access my outlook express on Windows '95. My server told me I needed to upgrade my software because they werent able to read it. Well, after downloading windows '98 I am still unable to log on without an error message. My server has been very hesitant to offer me any more info on the subject and I have no idea if I am able/supposed to updrage to a newer version of outlook express. Is there one? Could this be the problem...not having updated O.E. software? Thanks in advance for any help on the subject.

    OE is integrated with Internet Explorer. What version of IE are you running? Since you just upgraded from 95 to 98, guessing very old. I am still running IE 5.5, very pleased. You have to upgrade IE to get OE upgraded.

    Outlook Express is a component of Internet Explorer. What version of Internet Explorer are you using? You can find the version by opening an I.E. Window, clicking on Help, then clicking on "About Internet Explorer ". The version number will be listed at the top of the page. If your version is 4.1 or newer, then I think your ISP is giving you the run-around.

    In any case, there are a couple of things that you can try to do resolve your problem. The first is to try and repair your existing installation. I believe that you can try to repair IE in Win95 by going to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, select Internet Explorer, click Add/Remove. A window should open with several choices on it, one of which is to repair IE. Select repair, click on OK, and follow the on screen instructions.

    If this does not correct your problem then you can download a newer version of Internet Explorer at the following link;

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/ie501sp2/default.asp

    The above link will take you to a page where you can download Version 5.01 of Internet Explorer, which will upgrade your existing software.

    Also, I don't understand what you mean when you say you downloaded a copy of Windows 98. I've not aware of any downloadable version of 98, or any other windows operating system for that matter. If you mean that you upgraded your system to Windows 98 through the use of installation disks or a CD than thats a different story.

    If in fact you have upgraded your operating system to Win98 than you might want to consider downloading Version 6.0 of Internet Explorer instead of Version 5.1 Version 6.0 can be found at the following link;

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.asp

    Keep in mind though, that if you are still using Windows 95 you can not download IE 6.0 as it was not designed to run on a Win95 system.

    You can find out what version of Windows you are running by clicking on Start, Programs, Windows Explorer. Once the window opens click on Help, and select "About Windows ".

    Good luck, and if you have any further questions post back.

    Hey Rod, thanks for your help. Yes, to clarify, I did install a version of Windows '98, I didnt download it. Sorry about that. At this point I have Windows '98 and now IE 6 on my computer. However, I am still getting my error message. I have since contacted my local server and they tell me the nature of the error is occuring within my windows program, not at the point of the server connection, and that I should conact Microsoft. Perhaps you can tell me if this error message sounds familiar to you... "MSIMN caused an exception c000006H in Module DIRECTDB.DLL ". I guess I dont necessarily expect you to know what that means, but I guess I dont really know who to contact next about this, especially if it isnt a problem with my server. Thanks again for any help you can give me.
