Is it possible to import Outlook Express emails, just the inbox which is not that big (90 emails) into Netscape 7.2? If so, how?

    Suzette,

    Yes, that is possible.

Open Mail & Newsgroups and click on: Tools | Import
    Select: Mail
    Select: Outlook Express
Follow the Import Mail Wizard from there.

These instructions are found in the Netscpe 7.2 Help section:
    For Internet Explorer Users

Thank you for your help Ramona. I've been to Netscape's help, even your Netscape/Mozilla help and it appears that the Netscape wizard (7.1) will go so far and then not find either file, outlook.pst or outlook.ost, no matter where I place them. I get the error, "An error occurred importing mail from Outlook. Unable to create folder to import mail into "....and then it's finished.

For this particular instance, I had manipulated the inbox folder through my server's pmdf/imap/vms.

I have another file that is huge (7.1 gig) from Outlook, which I'll be working with today. This is the entire outlook folder. When exporting Outlook, it created two files. One .pst and one .ost.

I will post back with problems or results....

    Thanks again Ramona.

In Netscape7.2 mail, select Tools|Import. You get choices on what import, and then a from, which includes OE.

    Same Error Ramona...;(

Same Error. Netscape will not open the file. Any other suggestions...?...

p.s.--westside, no offense, but you didn't read the whole post. I'm getting an error as stated above in post #3, even after performing the instructions from the webpage and using both wizards....

    Suzette,
I was replying to the message as quoted. I was just adding to Ramona's post. I did not see the post #3. I would have not attempted a reply if I had seen it. Especially, since I was replying to a message about Outlook Express, but now we have an Outlook problem. Have ever tried to do an Outlook to Outlook Express , then to NS from OE.
But, I did a search and there is software being sold to recover .ost and .pst files. If you cannot open them , the files are corrupted.

    Hi Westside:

There are a total of three files. The first one was only 196Kb and went smoothly from Outlook to OE and then NS 7.2. The second is 1.4g and the third is 1.7g. I'm currently on the 1.4g and found online that there is a problem with large files, and that you're supposed to "separate" them somehow. It gets very technical. I called for support, they did'nt know what I was talking about Too many applications involved...;(, and told me that it's impossible. BUT, I've already done one file.

At this time, I was able to pull the 1.4g file into Outlook, but it looks like most of the file folders are empty. From a 1.4g file, I have a total of 3833 emails, 58 folders. I've created an IMAP account (as I did previously) and tried to copy one folder. It took 1 hour to move 20 emails, and there are 1211 emails in that one folder. Then Outlook froze. I was able to open the file, but it looks like; not completely. You mentioned software to recover .ost & .pst files? I don't think that is my problem.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I welcome them with open arms....;)

I think Microsoft needs to create applications that are compatible with their own applications....(???)....and it would be nice, with other applications too.....;) The consumer is paying enough money to Bill for his brilliant ideas, how about giving back to the consumer? Just my opinion though.....

    Suzette,
I wish I could help you. I understand OE, but I don't understand Outlook, or what it does on exporting. However, it should give you some guidelines. Have you tried to contact Microsoft? I have had two questions about problems with their software, and they answered me, at no cost. At one time, when I was using Microsoft software I found that a website, called, appropriately, Darnit was very useful. I did not check it, so I don't know if it even works.

    Finally--done

I've finally been able to import the Outlook email files into Netscape by performing several imports and exports. The originally file was unknown which version of Outlook. My suggestion is to always find out which version application you're working with first!!...;( From there, life is simple...!...;)

But, also, Outlook and Outlook Express are entirely different applications.
I don't know what you did, but in doubt, try to import Outlook mail from Outlook Express, and, it should be smooth sailing after that. Also, don't forget Netscape communicator. It is a necessary intermediary, if one goes the other way, from NS7.x to whatever else is out there.
