Go to Start\Run, type in sfc /scannow and press Enter.

OE hanging is almost always due to a corrupt .dbx file...usually inbox.dbx. Unfortunately, if you store a lot messages in the Inbox, you're probably going to lose them.

First, make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is check in My Computer>Tools>Folder Options>View tab.

Then in OE, go to Tools>Options>Maintenance tab and click on the Store Folder button. Make a note of the entire path.

Then open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer), navigate to that folder and move the inbox.dbx file to another folder....My Documents will work.

Then open OE. If that works (and it does most of the time), and if you want to try to get your old messages back, in OE, go to File>Import>Messages, tell it to import from Outlook Express 6, then "Import from OE6 store directory," then browse to where you moved the old Inbox.dbx file to and see if it can import any of your old messages back in.

Sometimes OE hangs for me, too, and I need to go to my ISP's website, log in and clear "problem" messages off of the server. Then OE works normally. Usually the offending messages are spam of "ghost" emails- no sender or subject listed. If your ISP offers this option, check and see if that works for you.

Same here. It started after I installed Office 2003.
