I am using Windows XP with Outlook Express 6. I have OE set to retrieve my ISP mail, as well as a HotMail account. I have been using it for about 6 months no with no trouble whatsoever and love the convenience.

For about the past week, when downloading mail or when trying to respond to a message, I get a pop up window that says an error has occurred and OE will have to shut down (as well as the stuff about sending the error report to MS). Which it promptly does!

I would really like to hear any thoughts about what may be causing this and how I can fix it.

    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried running the IE Repair Tool? Yes, I know, what does IE have to do with OE? They are installed as a set.

Disable Error Reporting and a more comprehensive error message (which you can copy and post) will be displayed.

    thanks, but need more help

Mark, thanks...I read about the repair tool in another post, but when I tried that I couldnt quite follow along to figure out how to do that. Does that mean basically that I would have to uninstall and then reinstall the program? Would I lose everything? I cant even get OE to stay open long enough now to back up my files.

I would disable the error message, but again, need some instruction.

    Thanks for your time guys.

No, you wouldn't need to uninstall and then reinstall. Go into Add\Remove Programs, find the entry for IE 6 and double click it, a window will open up with three options, one will be to Repair. Select it and then click OK. Reboot when prompted.
Though you go into Add\Remove to get to it, by selecting the repair option that is all you are doing, not uninstalling it.
You would not lose everything by running the Repair Tool. If it does tell you that it needs to install, just install on top if itself.

    To disable Error Reporting
Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP
Click Start, and then click Control Panel (or point to Settings, and then click Control Panel).
Double-click System (or click Switch to Classic View, and then double-click System).
Click the Advanced tab, and then click Error Reporting.
Click Disable error reporting to disable both user and kernel-mode error reporting, or click to clear the Programs check box.
Click OK, and then click OK.

    Still no go

Not sure what Im missing here, but when I get into Add/Remove programs, I DO NOT get the option to repair. All it wanted to do was remove it.

I disabled the error reporting, so lets see what happens next.
