I run XP Home, with IE and Outlook Express.

For the last 48 hours, OE will not open any web links placed in emails.
I have to cut and paste in Google to access the link.
This facility has always worked perfectly.

I have run an AntiVirus scan, spyware cleaners etc., with no results.
I can't find any "settings" that might be relevant either.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    1. Quit all programs that are running.
    2. Click Start, and then click Run.
    3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll and then click OK.
    4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

    Check for effect.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):
    Shdocvw.dll
    Msjava.dll
    Actxprxy.dll
    Oleaut32.dll
    Mshtml.dll
    Browseui.dll
    Shell32.dll

Thankyou surferdude 2, I tried both elements of your suggestion and the problem remains.

The only thing differently I have done in the last 48 hours, is to download, install and then uninstall, Mozilla Firefox.
I can't see how this could have had any effect on Outlook Express.

I view of that, I would suggest a System Restore to a date prior to Mozilla.

Another thought, check to see that IE is your default browser now. OE may still be try to use Firefox.

Start Internet Explorer, goto Tools, Internet Options and select the Programs tab. Make sure the message "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser" is checked. If not, then check it! Press Okay and close Internet Explorer

The box that asked IE to check it was the default browser, was NOT checked.
I have now checked it and pressed OK.

    But, the problem remains.

I am now working my way through BearNunya's suggestions.

I will let you know the outcome and I really appreciate the help.

Did you close IE after checking the line in the options? If not, you need to close all IE windows after setting the option and then restart IE.

I have done a System Restore back to the day before I installed and uninstalled, Mozilla Fox.

    The problem still remains.

I have just noticed that the desktop shortcut link to my GMail account won't open the programme.
The invitation to chose a programme to open GMail, came up.
I chose Internet Explorer and it opened immediately.
So I closed it and tried again and the list of programmes came up again and I had to click OK, to accept IE as the appropriate programme before it would open.

Incidentally, after the restore, I noticed that the IE "default browser" wasn't checked.
I have checked it and rebooted.

    Stll the problem remains.

Open a command prompt and type assoc.url (enter)and lets see what the XP association is for that.

Thank you Gentlemen (and Ladies ?), I have created another System Restore to "two days" before I downloaded Mozilla Fox and that has solved the problem.
Its possible that as I was playing with Mozilla very late in the evening (I thought I downloaded after midnight), I might have got the download days mixed up.

Its suprising that even after uninstalling Mozilla, it still had some effect on my email settings.
I would have thought the uninstall would have returned things to normal.

Thanks again for your help and support.
Its a very nice feeling, when you post a problem and someone answers. :)
