For the time being, I am going to use Outlook Express mail program that came with Windows XP Home Edition.
Netscape 7.1 is so ******* up, I have grown tired of reinstalling it twice a week, although I find it much easier to use.
With the default Netscape mail program, I was able to do the following:
    Leave messages on server.
Do not download messages that are larger than.....kb (this wiped out all the **** sent to me, large images, animated cartoons, other useless ****)
Delete messages on server when they are deleted locally
    Do not automatically download messages

I found a settings tool within Outlook, found it confusing.
Is it possible to adjust the settings like I had in Netscape?
    Alan

To "Leave messages on server" open Outlook Express and click on TOOLS/ACCOUNTS. In the Internet Accounts window select the account you use to access your mail and then click on the Properties button. In the Properties window click on the Advanced tab and place a checkmark in the "Leave a copy of the message on Server" box. If you want the messages to be deleted from the server after X number of days place a checkmark in "Remove from server after XX days" and select the number of days you want.

To "Delete messages on server when they are deleted locally" place a checkmark in the "Remove from Server when Deleted from Deleted Items" box. Click Apply and OK and then close the Internet Properties window.

To "Stop messages from automatically downloading" click on TOOLS/OPTIONS and on the General tab remove the checkmarks from "Send and Receive Messages on Startup" and "Check for New Messages Every XX Minutes" Click Apply and OK.

To "Do not download messages that are larger than.....kb" click on TOOLS/MESSAGE RULES and select Mail from the sub-menu. In the "Select the Conditions for your Rule" window scroll down to "Where the message size is more than size" and place a checkmark in it. In the "Select the Actions for your Rule" window scroll down to "Do Not Download it from the Server" and place a checkmark in this. Then in the "Rule Description" window click on the size link and set the size for the messages you don't want to download. Click OK to save the size you selected. The click OK to save the rule.

In the "Message Rule" window click on Apply Now and in the "Apply Mail Rules Now" window click on Apply Now. A window will open telling you the new rule has been applied. Click on OK and then Close to close the "Apply Mail Rules Now" window and then and then click OK to close the "Message Rules Window ".

    Hope this helps. :)
