I send an email in OE, and my recipients say they are getting the message fine but OE says "there were some problems in sending etc etc" and the email gets put into my OUTBOX so that when I reopen OE, the same email gets sent again . . . and as many times as I continue reopening. Can you tell me how to remedy the situation?

Click on the Outbox and see if you can delete it.

In addition search for Outbox.dbx and, with OE closed, delete it. It will be recreated when OE is next opened. Your existing Outbox may be corrupted.

Steven: Please clarify where "Outlook box" is

Without interupting the status quo, where do I go in the upper toolbar? How do I find that "outlook box "? Also, just to clarify PeteC, I think I can type "outbox.dbx" in my search box (I use XPPro), correct? Then when it pops up in results, just delete it? Thanks to you both for any additional feedback. I'd post my URL but not sure it's allowed. An excellent forum here . . .good look to the layout . . .

    info for Pete

Searched "otbox.dbx" and two results came up, which are:
    outbox.dbx C:\Documents and Settings 59KB DBX file
    outbox.dbx " " " " " " " " " " " " " 137KB DBX file

should I just delete both of these? I am keeping them on the side and minimized for now . . .

    when I delete "oubox.dbx ", it still doesn't help

I did go into and search out that "outbox.dbx" and deleted it - the problem is still occuring. I also am getting a "some errors occurred . . . " when I open OE, I made a screenshot of my screen when that happens if someone wants to see it.

    Welshjim: Here is what I've tried . . .

    I have tried:
    #1. Searching "outbox.dbx" & deleting it. This doesn't work
because the problem re-occurs and I re-search "outbox.dbx" and it
shows up in search results (even after a first deletion)
    #2. Compacting folders . . . been there / done that - no good
#3. Rebooting or turning the computer off & back on again - no good
#4. Ran a Norton Antivirus scan thinking something was causing this . . .
    no viruses found.
#5. I open Internet Explorer, click TOOLS & INTERNET OPTIONS and
delete FILES then COOKIES - sill have the OE email sending problem.
#6. Went to START then RUN and typed "msimn/reg," in open box and
when I click OK, a box pops up with red circular 'X' and the message:
"Windows cannot find msimn/reg,. Make sure you typed the name
correctly....etc." so REREGISTERING Outlook Express doesn't help
#7. Tried the same with REREGISTERING LIBRARIES and get a similar
pop up with a red 'X' and message it cannot find that specific file
    so that doesn't help.
So these are several tactic that are of no help. I don't think CREATING A NEW IDENTITY would help as I notice in that link you provided that it doesn't tell what to do in step #1. I woiuldn't want to take the chance of losing my emails as I use my system for my fulltime business. Are there any other suggestions? Any info would be appreciated!
    thnak you!

You have the wrong syntax - there is a space after n and before / .....

    msimn /reg

    and for library files ....

    regsvr32 urlmon.dll and so on

    About that syntax re PeteC's response . . .

Thanks PeteC. I went by the EXACT punctuation in that tutorial. Let me try YOUR suggestion! I appreciate it. I will get back to you guys & let you know what happens. Btw, you'd think, in such a tutorial, they'd make those instructions with punctuation, alot more accurate. Those mistakes should not be in there. Additionally, I didn't catch Steve Jones response to this - but do you mean clicking the actual TEXT "outbox" while I have that part of OE open? And trying to delete it that way.
Last evening I also did a system restore back to 11-15, which didn't alleviate this problem but maybe typing in this proper syntax will.

    getting frustrating . . .

Ok, in REREGISTER OE, I went to RUN & typed in msimn / reg & clicked OK and it went OK. Then, in REREGISTER LIBRARIES, all went well and I succeded with regsver32 shdocvw.dll, browseui.dll and msjava.dll . The problem I had with regsver32 mshtml.dll resulted in a pop up saying: "mshtml was loaded, but the dll register server point was not found. This file can not be registered. I reopened OE and sent a message to my secondary Gmail address but the problem is still happening . . . please pardon my frustration.

    Also another problem . . .

. . . is when I now open OE, I get a notice (with green bars across) that says: "Some errors occurred while processing the requested tasks. Please review the list of errors below for more details." and in the ERRORS tab, it is blank. This is now happening every time I open Outlook Express. ? ? ? ?

What about SEND / RECEIVE icon?

I am also looking at my SEND / RECEIVE icon when I open Outlook Express and wonder if I should try anything in there? I have high speed broadband so use Charter.net as my internet provider. I was going to open that but thought I'd wait & see if anyone could suggest something? A recent client indicated receiving an email I sent him last night that was sent 43 different times . . . and I only sent it ONCE!

Something else that raised an eyebrow . . .

I decided to try and RE-COMPACT my OE folders. It went through it's paces and after a while, I see this pop up (with that red ball & 'X' through it) and the following wording: "A folder is currently in use by Outlook Express or by another application" . . so now I am back to square one, scratching the noodle.

Perhaps it's a problem with your sent items.dbx file rather than the outbox. To test it, in OE click tools>options>send tab. Uncheck the line that says "save copy of sent messages in the sent items folder ". Then, try sending an email and see if you get the same error message you usually get. If not, deleting the sent items.dbx would more then likely be the fix. My guess is that if you get rid of the error message, you'll more than likely get rid of the multiple sent emails problem too.

Daniel20441--Did you try the procedure in my post #12?
I wonder if you could tell from Task Manager what other app might be running when you try to Compact.
YOu also could try the procedure here

    Zander . . .

. . .I unchecked that box you instructed me to. I ten sent a test message to myself via my Gmail address. When I did, I got this notice: "When you send an email message, it will be placed in you 'Outbox' folder, ready to be sent the next time you choose the "Send and Receive" comman ". So that did not help either as I get that pop up error notice after I send, which shows the green bars across.
Hold on Welshjim...I need to read your message.
