I have a new drive installed in my computer. It is now called C: and has Windows XP and OE installed. The old drive is called E:. Somewhere on E: is all my OE settings, address books and stored messages. How do I migrate them to the new drive C:? It appears that Windows XP F.A.S.T. may not be appropriate as it seems to apply to two seperate computers.

Use the File > Import function in your copy of OE on C:\ drive and point it to the location on E:\ drive which you can determine using a file search.

Windows FAST would work, but not now as the E:\ drive is no longer the boot drive.

Your Address Book is a .wab file

Your message folders are .dbx files - Folders.dbx, Inbox.dbx .....

Your email accounts you will not find unless these have been backed up (exported) when they would be a .iaf file so you may have to set these up again.

The following article may be of some limited help ....

How to back up and recover Outlook Express data

Thanks. I've found the message files using SEARCH in Windows explorer. OE is having trouble importing. Any suggestions?

The default location for the message files in OE is ....

    Code:
    C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{17F6584F-9827-408F-90B2-38A015FA81E4}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Inbox.dbx
, etc. The numerical string may be different on your computer.

Copy - do not move, the *.dbx files from E:\ to that location and overwrite the default .dbx files set up by OE. You will need to 'Show hidden files and folders' in Tools > Folder Options > View.
