I had some non-related problems with IE8/OE6 and I removed IE8 and SP3 completely and reloaded both on my XP-Pro.

Now, even tho I leave OE6 minimized and I've checked "Include this account when receiving mail ..." I no longer get the audible or pop-up visible icon in the sys tray when messages come in.

The TaskBar Properties for the OE icon is marked "Hide when inactive ".

I have to click Rcvd/Send to see if I have any messages.

    What happened?

Many moons since I last used OE - had to move to Outlook with Win 7, so I don't recall the default settings for OE, but check under Tools > Options - General that under Send/Receive Messages ....

Play a sound when new messages arrive is checked

(Also check under Control Panel > Sounds & Audio Devices > Sounds that a sound is selected for New Mail Notification.)

Check for new messages every xx minutes is checked and a time set.

Under the Connection tab Hang up after sending and receiving should be unchecked.

    Pete,

I changed the sound and time interval and now it works fine.

    Much thanks

Look, Laddie... using Outlook is like trying to sail with no canvas aloft.

For God's (and your sanity's) sakes, DO try Pegasus (PC) for a mail client.

It is SO (censored) superior to Outlands as not to merit a comparitive.

    My 2¢

You're welcome - glad to hear it was just a couple of settings :)
