This is a small but annoying problem I'd like to fix...

I'm using OE 6 and WXP. There are two accounts set up in OE, one in my name and the other in my wife's name...but I'm listed as the default name.

When I attempt to either 'reply' or 'forward' emails I've received from others, which are addressed to me, sometimes (most times, but not always) my wife's name appears in the 'from' line, not my name. When I compose a new email, there's no problem.

I've checked everything and can't figure out why the 'from' line is defaulting to the non-default account. Any ideas?

You've gone to tools.....accounts....properties....and ensured that you've got your reply address set up as your own?

Well, er, ummm....no, it wasn't set up that way, but now that I've done so, the problem still remains.

I also have the box ticked which says: " include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing ". Not sure what that means but should it be ticked?

    Any other suggestions?

I'd untick it. See if it makes a difference? You can always go back and re-do it?

I believe you have two accounts set up, not two identities. Set up your wife's identity and see if that changes things..

Click on File - Identities - Manage Idnetities. Do you see an identity for both you and your wife?

First, I unticked the box about receiving and synchronising mail but that didn't change anything....

When I clicked on 'Manage Identities', all I saw was 'Main Identities' with no name associated with it....so, I added my name. Still didn't fix the problem. Added my wifes name as a second identity, but ticked the box 'use this identity when starting' and added my name where required. Similarly, put my name in the area for 'use this identity when a program can't ask you to chose an identity.' Still have the problem.

    What now!!! ???

Background: each person should have their own Identity which should be listed under File - Identities. Each Identity can have multiple accounts (or e-mail addresses) which should be listed under Tools - Accounts.

What you've done is to two create two Accounts (one for you and one for your wife) under your Identity.

Open your Identity (File - Identities) and then click Tools - Accounts - Mail - Properties. Make sure that only YOUR details are entered here.

Next, open your wifes' Identity and follow the same steps but this time make sure that you delete any details which relate to YOUR identity.

A little knowledge is the pits!

You are correct that I had two accounts under my indentity.

I closed my wifes account under my identity, opened a new identity for her, and of course she then had her own account.
But then I was into switching identities, etc, etc and it all seemed like a lot of trouble for someone who might receive one email a month.

So, taking the initiative.....I closed her identity. Then I opened up her account again under my identity.

And the problem seems to have somehow fixed itself. The test will be when I receive a new email and try to reply or forward it, but working from current inbox emails, her name no longer shows as the default when I try to reply or forward.

I very much appreciate the time and trouble you folks go to in responding to my problems...not just this one, but a previous problem as well. I can honestly say that you have not yet dprived our village of an idiot.

Sounds like your alternative solution should work :) Just be sure not to muddle the account details.
