Outlook Express locks on exiting

I'm Italian. I use Outlook Express 5.00.2615.200 and Windows 98 SE (both in English).
The message base was imported from another Outlook Express in Italian.
The problem is: randomly, but quite often, I shut OE down and I can't open it anymore. Something loops and I must kill MSIMN process, which is "not responding ".
Only killing this task I am able to launch OE again.
I tried to format & reinstall all, but it was not useful.
I think the problem resides in the message base.
Anyone can help?
