"Outlook Express has encountered a problem" ?

    Why am I getting this message at least once every day or so (IE6)? This only started the last couple of months.

    "Outlook Express has encounted a problem and needs to close "

    This last time it was also followed by:

    "DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close" which I've never seen before.

    This second message may have been caused when a compacting of files in OE was briefly interrupted.

    Start by running through An Outlook Express basic repair kit and in particular re-register OE and it's libraries.

    Also check that none of the .dbx files have become 'Read only' - include Hidden files and folders in your search.
