    Hi all,

I got a weird one I've never seen before. XP Pro 32-bit machine with OE 6. This started last Friday and came out of the blue...

When the user sends an e-mail, it stays in the Outbox and does not appear in Sent Items. It generates the error screen, but there is no error code.

    BUT...

The e-mail DOES go through. For example, I sent myself a test e-mail from her and it came through without issue.

I already rebooted. I updated through Microsoft Update. Everything seems to be up-to-date. A virus scan turned up nothing and the machine runs perfectly well otherwise.

Incoming e-mail to her comes in fine. This is connected simply to a POP3 mail server.

Any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it? The constant errors are annoying! Thanks!

    Chris

Seek out and delete the file called Outbox.dbx that could be corrupt. It'll get recreated next time you try to send.

Hmmmmmmm... OK, done. Unfortunately, that did nothing. The Outbox.dbx file was about 175MB in size. Deleted it, reopened OE, and it re-created it at 75K. Sent a test message and that upped the dbx file to 139K. But the same symptom persists.

I got the test e-mail, but it still generated the error on her PC, still remained in her Outbox, and never went to her Sent Items.

This is w.e.i.r.d. Any other thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Chris

    1. Delete Sent Items.dbx

    2. Reproduce the error message here.

OK, that seems to have worked. I didn't delete Sent Items only because she may need old e-mails. But I "moved" it to her desktop and out of the profile folder. Reopened OE and everything is fine now. Sent a test message and it went flawlessly, no errors.

I have now renamed the Sent Items dbx file to Sent Items.OLD and moved it back into the profile folder.

It was 2.1GB in size! Good lord...

Well, yea, at that size you can expect problems!

Windows, up to XP, (Outlook Express) does not truly empty the "Deleted Items" folder when you empty it. Also delete "Deleted Item.dbx. When this file gets to around 2GB all kinds of windows errors start appearing. Window will recreate this file when you reboot.
